Forgot User ID:

You will need to reset your account.

  1. To do this go back to our home page at WWW.DMV.CA.GOV
  2. At the top of the home page select Login Here
  3. On the next screen select Forgot User ID. You will be directed to a page where you will need to reregister. If you receive an error stating The User ID provided already exists, please choose another User ID, please change the User ID to something you have never used before, fill in the required fields and then click Register.
  4. Be sure to check your email, including junk and spam folders, for the confirmation email and click on the link to reactivate your account.
  5. You can now go back to our home page and login.

Forgot Password:

  3. On the next screen enter User ID then click "Forgot your Password?" You will be directed to a page where you will need to answer a security question.
  4. A message prompts "A new password has been sent to you at the email address you provided". Click OK.
  5. Be sure to check your email, including junk and spam folders for the new password
  6. Please copy and paste the temporary password provided and follow the prompts to reset your password.

Locked Account

If you are locked out of your account, wait 30 minutes and try to login again. If you still cannot login after 30 minutes, you will need to reset your account.

Inactive Account

Please be sure to check your spam or junk folder as the original DMV confirmation email may be there.

  1. Go back to our home page at WWW.DMV.CA.GOV
  2. At the top of the home page select Login Here
  3. On the next screen click "Resend Confirmation email" and you will be directed to a page where you will need to fill in your DL/ID # and Email Address and click OK.
  4. Be sure to check your email, including junk and spam folders for the DMV confirmation email.
  5. Once you access the email, you will receive further instructions to activate your account.

Account Not Found

All accounts are de-activated when not used within 18 months. You will need to reregister and become a certified user again. Go to WWW.DMV.CA.GOV and click on the Register Here link at the top of the home page.

Change Email Address

  1. To change your email address, please go to WWW.DMV.CA.GOV and click the Login Here link at the top of the home page.
  2. Once logged in, click the Settings link on the right hand side of the screen.
  3. While on the Settings page, you can update or change your email address.

Information Not Valid

If you have recently renewed or replaced your driver license or identification card, you will not be able to register on our site until you receive the new card with the new issue date.

Note: If applicable, please make sure that you are entering a "zero" and not "O."

Payment Confirmation Not Received

If you paid online and did not receive a confirmation of payment, please allow 72 hours and then contact the DMV call center at 1-800-777-0133 or 1-877-563-5213. The call center business hours are Monday - Tuesday and Thursday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm PST and Wednesdays 9:00 am to 5:00 pm PST.
